Oral Cancer Screeningsimage of orcal cancer screening

Oral cancer screenings are extremely important for all patients. These screenings can detect signs of oral cancers. If signs of cancers are found, it is easier to treat at this earlier stage rather than later on.

Oral cancers are a serious threat and will take the life of one American every hour this year.*

Since oral cancers are not usually discovered by a patient until they have reached an advanced stage, the best defense is to have your dentist complete an oral cancer screening during your regular dental care appointments. This cancer screening will include an examination of your mouth, neck and tongue. If you feel that you may be experiencing some of the symptoms of oral cancer it is best to schedule an appointment with your dentist or doctor as soon as possible. Early detection is the key to proper diagnosis and treatment.

Oral cancer symptoms include, but are not limited to:

  • consistently irritated bumps or spots within the mouth
  • red or white patches in the mouth
  • numbness in any area of the face or mouth
  • persistent sores in your mouth or on your face
  • a chronically sore throat
